Press Release: A New Vintage Fashion Fair at the Heart of the Cotswolds

Stroud Vintage Fashion, Textile & Accessories Fairs
in the Subscription Rooms Stroud January 5th 2008

Stroud Vintage is hosting a series of Vintage Fashion, Textile & Accessories Fairs in the Ballroom of the Subscription Rooms during the whole of 2008. The fairs offer a wonderful selection of affordable quality vintage clothes, textile, jewellery, books, shoes, hats, bags and accessories from the 1800s to the 1980s, with Specialist sellers coming from the UK and Europe. The 2007 fairs were a rousing success, so we’re back for more… (well, the Beatles played here twice!)

The first of the 2008 fairs will be held on Saturday January the 5th. For more information about the fairs – whether browsing or booking a stand - visit www.stroudvintage.com

Opening times from 10am to 4pm.

A visit to Stroud on any of the fair days will offer you the chance to indulge yourself to the hilt; with a treasure trove of wonderful affordable vintage delights for any season. Stroud has a proud textile heritage with more than 100 cloth mills gracing the Five Valleys in its heyday. To this end, Stroud Vintage will be linking with the Stroudwater International Textile Festival during May 2008.

And don’t forget – it doesn’t get greener than Vintage. Vintage is the acceptable face of fashion – where unique pre-owned pieces leave just the lightest of carbon footprints behind.

December to Remember: Lucite Purse

This 1950's confetti lucite purse by Gilli is perfect for the collector. This gorgeous purse is available from VFG member Material Memories.

Shimmery marbled white lucite that resembles mother of pearl is set on fire with gold confetti lucite. The top is carved with a beautiful palm leaf and circles. This is an amazing Vintage Designer Purse in wonderful condition that is sure to become a treasured accessory.

December to Remember: Wide Brim Hat

Hats continue to show up on the fashion runways. Wide brim styles are prevalent and so now! We love this gorgeous example from the 1950's from VFG member Tangerine Boutique.

THE most unique and stunning ladies fedora style hat!
The era for this one is the early 1950s. It was created from a wonderful and unusual tweed felt. The felt has a mohair feel. The base color is slate blue and it is shot with black and tan "tufts" giving it a tweed appearance. The brim is generous measuring nearly 14" across. The crown is 4 1/2" high and rounded. It has a wide gross grain head band and double bow off to the side. The ribbon matches the hat color and is decoratively top stitched in multiple colored threads. The brim is shaped to dip down over the right eye. You know, that "Lady of Mystery" kind of thing.

Have you heard? Aprons are coming back in style again! Of course, you can't do better than a true vintage apron like this reversible floral beauty from VFG member Hooked on Vintage.

A pretty, softly flared vintage apron that is completely reversible. Two layers of fabric, one in a scalloped yellow primrose print and the other a sheer yellow organdy with bottom ruffle. Both sides have small pockets. Trimmed in green rick rack. Sweet!

December to Remember: Vintage Sewing Lessons

How about a few sewing lessons for your stocking? This Singer Sewing Skills book was published in 1954 and is available from VFG member Anna Newman at Booty Vintage on Etsy.

In addition to the conventional "how to use your machine" book, this set also includes (now vintage) fabric, trims, and other materials to practice a progressive set of machine use skills. Each lesson's materials are in a little separate envelope.
