Etsy VFGteam Featured Seller

Welcome to our VFG Blog series featuring members of the VFGteam at Etsy!

You will be introduced to a different Team member in each new post. Please check out our Team Gallery page here.

Today's featured seller is Caryn and you can visit her shop ForeverAfterVintage here.

1. When did you first get interested in vintage fashion & why?

I first became interested in vintage fashion as a small child after seeing and falling in love with movies and music from the past. I was influenced by the clothing worn by the actors, actresses, and musicians.

2. Do you regularly wear vintage?

I do wear vintage regularly. Vintage is my favorite clothing to wear just like purple is my favorite color.

3. Do you have a Holy Grail?

Yes. My Holy Grail would be a ginormous closet full of late 40s to early 50s day dresses, evening gowns, and a few of the finest Barguzin Russian Sable fur coats, jackets, and capes money could buy.

4. If you could visit the atelier of any fashion designer (dead or alive), who would it be?

It’s tough to pick just one because I am torn between two. I would love to go back in time and visit the atelier of Charles Frederick Worth as he made clothing more fitted and fashionable for women. His work was meticulous, luxurious, desired by many, and I would have liked to have been there to see this historical time in fashion history. I would also love to make one more stop on my way back to the present and visit the atelier of Coco Chanel because she made history herself by making clothing that was more comfortable than previously worn corsets and other restrictive clothing, while still making it very desirable, and she paid fine attention to detail so I would love to have been a fly on the wall to witness some of her beautiful designs while they were being constructed.

5. What do you see as the future of vintage?

As our youth gets older and is influenced by what we wear today and what others wore before I see more people loving and appreciating vintage fashion, but it becoming harder to obtain.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop?

This is my favorite dress in my Etsy shop:

Here Comes the Rain Again ~ VFG Fashion Parade for the week of March 23rd

Here Comes the Rain Again

We love the moody lyrics of this famous Eurythmics song: Here comes the rain again.
Falling on my head like a memory, falling on my head like a new emotion.
I want to walk in the open wind. I want to talk like lovers do.

We would like to add the following lyric: I want to wear vintage rain gear!

The Vintage Fashion Guild's Fashion Timeline

Did you know that the VFG Resources include a vintage Fashion Timeline?

It begins with the 1800s & continues though the 1980s, encompassing 190 years of fashion trends & styles. Many examples of garments, accessories & jewelry are pictured along with the text.

Each decade was researched & written by various VFG members, including Hollis of Past Perfect Vintage, Jonathan of Kickshaw Productions, Terri of VintageDevotion, Carla of CarlaAndCarla & other contributors.

The Timeline stands as a valuable tool for anyone wishing to research vintage fashion. Like all of our other resources it is a work in progress, so check back often to see what's new.

It's Spring ~ Time for some Vintage Inspiration!

Once again, it is time for the Vintage Fashion Guild's Spring Vintage Inspiration!

Twice a year we take a trip back in time to see how vintage fashion inspires current runway styles.

Our members have presented their best items, some for sale & some from their archives, to illustrate the following four trends of Spring 2014:

This season we shine a light on the spring metallic trend with vintage clothing and accessories in pale gold, silver and shining pastels. Then we trot the globe to show you elements of vintage ethnic clothing from around the world. Vintage items in shades of navy blue anchor this year’s spring look, for a style that is classic yet current. Finally, we take a cue from 1950s Italian fashion and culture to present La Dolce Vita. Hop on your Vespa and join us!

Get started by clicking on the image below to see the complete VFG Spring 2014 look book with pages of vintage fashions from Vintage Fashion Guild members.
