Tribute to Lilly Pulitzer ~ VFG Fashion Parade for week of May 13th

Tribute to Lilly Pulitzer:Soon after their marriage in 1952, Lilly and her husband Peter Pulitzer moved to Palm Beach, Florida, where Peter owned orange groves. Lilly made a mess of her clothes squeezing juice at a stand, and we are lucky she did for the inspiration it gave her.

To camouflage the stains, Lilly designed a shift dress of brightly printed cotton. So popular was the dress that she made them to sell and soon was busy selling “Lillys” to the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy as well as other high society elites. Until 1984, the cheerful preppy style of Lilly Pulitzer was available with Lilly herself at the helm of her company, then in 1993 the rights to the shuttered brand were purchased and the style revived. Pulitzer served as a creative consultant in this new incarnation.

Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau died at her home in Palm Beach on April 7, 2013, aged 81. This week we honor her with a parade of Lillys, both items for sale and from our sold archives.
