1. When did you first get interested in vintage fashion & why?

I first became interested in vintage fashion when I discovered the bright lights of Manchester as a teenager. There was a huge rockabilly revival going on at the time (1980s), with loads of nightclubs catering to that particular style of music. Fashion went hand-in-hand with the music, and I was hooked!

2. Do you regularly wear vintage?

I think it's important to support the vintage community so yes I do wear vintage regularly. I don't wear it head-to-toe every day - it really depends on what I'm doing. I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of two rather splendid day dresses, both dating c.1950s. I'm sure they'll be a regular fixture in my summer wardrobe this year. I'm also planning a shopping trip to Liverpool with my sister this weekend and have a fab 1970s dress that I'll team with boots and a vintage scarf. And I always wear vintage jewellery and accessories when I go out. I'm never short of a compliment or two!

3. Do you have a Holy Grail?

Anything by Jean Muir.

4. If you could visit the atelier of any fashion designer (dead or alive), who would it be?

Ohhh, that's such a difficult one. There are so many incredible designers past and present. However, as I love the Sixties so much, I guess it's got to be Mary Quant. I think her dynamic personality would have been a wonder to behold. And what an exciting time for fashion!

5. What do you see as the future of vintage?

Generally speaking, people will always resonate towards quality and craftsmanship, so I think the future of vintage is very safe indeed. People have always loved to wear and collect 'old stuff' for many a decade, so there's absolutely no reason that should change. There are now very serious collectors of fine vintage attire and my only hope is that the younger generation appreciate how special vintage it is.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop?

Dollyrockers floral maxi dress c.1960s. I especially love the colour and the little added extras like the plastic flower buttons, belt buckle and purple velvet trim.

Here are a few more items from Louise's shop:

Small Metal Evening Bag c.1950s

Laura Ashley English Country Roses Dress c.1980s

Jean Allen Pant Suit with Long Jacket c.1960s

Feb 13th Fashion Parade: Get The Look: Frank & Ava

Ava Gardner was a huge star from the late 1940s onwards—and had the fabulous wardrobe expected of stars at the height of Hollywood's "Golden Age". Frank Sinatra was no slouch in the fashion department either, with a rakish style of his own. Her form-fitting gowns and cocktail dresses and his snappy suits, hats and classic tuxedos make for a great "Get The Look" double-feature!

Ava Gardner's third marriage was to singer and actor Frank Sinatra. After he had been seeing her "on the side" for some time, Sinatra eventually left his first wife, Nancy, for Ava and their scandalous marriage made headlines. His fans, gossip columnists Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons and the Hollywood establishment all disapproved of Frank leaving his wife for "femme fatale" Ava. This tumultuous meeting and eventual marriage of two huge stars was sometimes described as "The Voice" (Frank) meets "The Shape" (Ava).

Ava Gardner described their relationship as very tempestuous. ‘We were high-strung people… possessive, jealous and liable to explode fast. When I lose my temper, you can’t find it any place. He’s the same.’ Tempers aside, there were also other problems, with infidelity and alcoholism adding to the volatile mix that was their marriage. They were forever breaking up and then getting back together, first separating in 1953, although they did not actually divorce until 1957.

Although their marriage failed, Ava has been described as the love of Frank's life and was also the inspiration for one of his most personal songs, "I'm a Fool to Want You". For many years after their break-up, Sinatra kept a photo of Ava taped to his dressing room mirror. The couple remained good friends for the rest of Gardner's life. She never married again. She said to an actress friend "that she never loved another man as much as she loved Frank."

Stylish, star-crossed lovers, indeed…

1. When did you first get interested in vintage fashion & why?

My grandmother gave me a beautiful hand beaded 1950s cardigan sweater while I was still in high school.
I fell in love with that cardigan and began shopping at local vintage shops looking for more. I wanted them in every color and pattern.
Before long, I also began collecting colored rhinestone jewelry and ladies' suits from the 1940s and early 1950s.

After a few years of buying and collecting, I began selling on consignment at a local vintage shop and eventually rented my own booth in an antique mall.
I was thrilled when Ebay came along and opened my first online shop specializing in vintage clothes and accessories in late 1998, moving to Etsy in 2008.

Although my Grandmother is gone, I still have that cardigan sweater and treasure it.

2. Do you regularly wear vintage?

I often wear vintage cashmere sweaters and cardigans. My current daily "go to" purse is a fabulous hand-stamped leather bag made in India in the 70s.

3. Do you have a Holy Grail?

One of the hand embellished cashmere cardigan masterpieces by Helen Bond Carruthers. I would particularly like to find one with embroidered flowers taken from an antique piano shawl.

4. If you could visit the atelier of any fashion designer (dead or alive), who would it be?

It would be a tie between Helen Bond Carruthers or Alfred Shaheen.

5. What do you see as the future of vintage?

I believe that there will always be serious collectors of fine clothing and accessories from the Victorian through 1950s era.

Hopefully the young women of today who are purchasing 70s embroidered Mexican dresses and East Indian block print dresses will continue to buy vintage clothing and accessories and come to appreciate the quality and beauty of earlier clothing.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop?

I'd have to say my red Alfred Shaheen sundress.

Here are a few more items from Debbie's shop:

Vtg 80s Thierry Mugler skirt suit:
